Spring In the Adirondacks
Our Spring comes slowly here in the 6.2 million acre Adirondack Park as the snows melt, Ice comes off the lakes and mud season ends. Visitors are ready for many outdoor activities after a long winter. The sap flows in our many Sugar bushes bringing the sweet taste of spring available from many merchants. Spring Skiing is available usually to the end of April. Rivers rise and rafting season begins in late April. The Ice goes out and the lakes are ready for peaceful days of boating and fishing. Kayaking and Canoeing are especially lovely.
As Spring comes the trails offer great veiws unobstructed by the leaves of summer. With thousands of trails the region, it is a hikers paradise. This is a great time to visit as the potential for Adirondack Experiences this time of year are awesome, but often overlooked. The forests, lakes and rivers arise from their long winter's nap. There are few tourists this time of year so no crowds anywhere especially in the usual busy areas. Birding in the Adirondacks is wonderful as many of the 100+ Species of Birds return and begin to establish nesting territiories. The mountains begin to green up late in May. Spring really takes off into late May to early June, when we can watch Spring move up the mountainsides. As May goes on you will see the thousands of shades of green the region is known for.
